If you want to get hitched without any last minute hitches, we’ve put together our top 10 wedding day hacks for a stress-free day.
You’ve probably spent months and months planning your big day, years and years dreaming of it and more than a bit of money organising everything. The last thing you want on your wedding day is unnecessary stress.
That’s why you need to think of everything in advance so there’s a plan to handle it without missing a beat, keeping your dream day perfect and as stress-free as possible.
Here are our top 10 wedding day hacks for a stress-free day!
Tip #1: Appoint a Head Honcho in charge of handling any last minute dramas
This is THE tip for a stress-free wedding: find somebody in the wedding party that you trust implicitly.
You want somebody whose judgement you trust, who is committed to making the day as good as possible and who isn’t afraid to put their foot down.
Normally, it’s your Best Man or Maid of Honour, but you can choose anybody. Just make sure that they’re ready to be in charge of the day and are capable of making decisions on the fly.
Distant relative had too much to drink? Your Head Honcho needs to get them some water and pull them away from the attention.
DJ making dodgy choices? Your Head Honcho needs to have a word.
People aren’t following instructions? You guessed it, Head Honcho needs to sort it out.
With a well appointed Head Honcho, you’ll be able to relax knowing everything has been left in capable hands and you can just sit back and enjoy every minute of your big day.
Tip #2: Outdoor wedding? Buy some veil weights.
Here’s where our top 10 wedding day hacks for a stress-free day get practical.
If you’re planning an outside wedding — whether that’s a twilight wedding on the beach or a forest wedding — you’re going to want to stock up on veil weights, otherwise it’s going to be blowing around in the slightest breeze.
They don’t have to be an eyesore either. Etsy has lots of decorative weights that might even add to your outfit!
Tip #3: New shoes? Scuff up the soles.
Continuing the practical section of our list now with something super practical…
If you’ve bought new shoes for the wedding — particularly if you’re planning a first dance on a smooth floor — take some sandpaper and rough the soles up a little. That’ll help develop some friction, giving you grip and stopping you from going full Chandler Bing…
Tip #4: Going strapless? Have your bra sewn into your dress.
The next of our top 10 wedding day hacks for a stress-free day is for women that are planning on going strapless: have your bra sewn into your dress.
There’s nothing worse than worrying about your bra straps all day, so ask your seamstress to sew your bra into your dress. That way, you won’t have to worry about it making an appearance at inopportune moments.
Tip #5: Prenuptial pimple? Don’t squeeze it!
This is a big one. If you wake up on your Big Day with a pimple, don’t panic and pop it! Instead grab an ice cube and rub it over the pimple constantly for about 10 minutes. That’ll bring the swelling and the redness down which will make it far less obvious.
If you squeeze it, it’s going to get red and angry. And you don’t want that.
Tip #6: Forget the make-up bag.
If you’re planning on topping up your makeup on the Big Day, then pack what you’ll need in small travel-friendly miniatures rather than hauling around your entire full-sized stash for the day. It’s a small thing, but makes a big difference, so you can enjoy a stress-free day!
Tip #7: Make programmes into fans:
If you’re planning to get married in the summer, people are likely to use your programme as a fan.
Why not use that to your advantage by adding wooden sticks to your programmes and making them into fans? People will love the idea and thought behind it!
Here’s a quick tutorial:
Tip #8: Feeling bloated on the big day?
To prevent feeling bloated on your big day, you can try skip dairy for a few days before the wedding. However, if you still wake up feeling bloated, drink a nice cup of mint tea. Not only does it help reduce bloating and indigestion, it can also helps calm pre-wedding jitters.
Tip #9: Make a wedding playlist (rather than hire a DJ)
If a DJ is a little too pricey or you can’t quite find one that’s right for your wedding day vibe, then why not hook up an iPod or Spotify playlist full of music you and your partner have chosen?
That way, you save cash and get complete control over what plays, so you can focus on enjoying the day without worrying your DJ is going to do this…
Tip #10: Have your cake and eat it!
Wedding cakes are pricey! So we thought we’d finish our top 10 wedding day hacks for a stress-free day with a tip on saving money on your wedding cake without sacrificing on how it looks… Have two cakes!
Have one pretty, decorative cake that’s just a basic sponge. This is the one you cut and pose with for photos.
Then have a tasty but not decorated cake kept out of site. When you give a slice to your guests, give them the tasty cake.
Then, if somebody ends up knocking the cake or anything, it’s no big deal.
Finally, don’t forget to check out the wedding section of our blog! It’s full of tips to keep the cost of your big day down, without sacrificing on the things that really matter to you.
