Inside Bamboo: A day in the life of Serena, Quality Assurance Associate
Serena, Quality Assurance Associate, Credit Risk
Meet Serena and read what she had to say about herself on our ongoing “A day in the life” series that highlight popular Bamboo Loans job functions, as seen through the eyes of their employees.
Hi Serena, tell us a bit about yourself, what do you do?
I’m Serena, but everyone calls me Sazz! I’ve recently moved from the Applications team and started working in the QA department, we complete call audits and identify areas that need improvement within the teams. Outside of work I independently study Farm management in my spare time and my dream is to have my own goat farm!
So why did you decide to work for Bamboo, and what are your working hours?
I’d worked in the Financial Services industry previously and was excited to work for a company that was still growing. Bamboo appealed to me initially because of the drive and enthusiasm that all the staff had from my first day.
My days start at 8am and end roughly around 4.30pm, Monday to Friday, although if there’s a lot to do or work to catch up on, we are always happy to stay later to get this done!
What was your background before you joined Bamboo?
Prior to Bamboo I’d worked in the Financial Services Industry mainly working in a call centre and dealing with administration. I’d also spent some time working as an Office Administrator for a local company that created and sold Bio care products to cruise lines. I’ve been lucky to work with some amazing companies in varying roles over the years which gave me a lot of experience moving forward as I started to look into what my career path would be!
What are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on increasing the number of audits we’re able to complete per person monthly to ensure we’re able to look at a wide range of calls and accounts. This helps us identify areas of focus within the departments and establish where more training is required, not just for each individual but for each team as well. This is essential to ensuring we’re providing the best service possible, giving correct information and keeping the customer journey smooth!
What is your favourite part about working with Bamboo?
I’d say my favorite part of working with Bamboo is the people! The atmosphere in the office is friendly, lively and supportive which helps with motivation daily.
Any favourite projects you’ve worked on?
My favorite project would be recently creating a training pack for New Starters in our Applications team. This included essential Bamboo information and a timeline of training to assist new members of staff in their initial weeks at the company. This training pack is now able to be amended to suit other teams in the business and provide specific team related information.
Outside of the office, how do you spend your free time?
I like to keep it simple – Gym, Goats & Gin!
What would you say to people about Bamboo?
Bamboo is a great place to work for anyone that is motivated, flexible and has a great sense of humor. We have a close ‘family’ atmosphere where everyone looks out for each other.
What are your top tips for being successful in the working environment?
I’ve found that staying focused is a key part to being successful in the working environment. Learning what you’re good at, what you enjoy and knowing where you want to go will steer you in the right direction to succeed, I’ve realized that offering suggestions and ideas will put you out there. You need to be a team player as well as being able to manage your own work.
A day in the life of Serena: Tell us your daily routine
I leave home at roughly 7.20am to start work at 8am and check my emails before starting on my main tasks. I’ll take a break around 10.30am and lunch around 1.00pm – Usually visiting one of the local shops to get some lunch with colleagues. We’re lucky enough to be located near to town so have a lot of choice when it comes to food!
In the afternoon, I have a catch up with my manager to review the mornings findings, complete any outstanding tasks and then finish at 4.30pm.
I get home around 5.30pm, I’ve recently joined my local gym so try to go every evening (and over the weekend!). When I get back I feed my cat then make dinner, getting to bed early enough to be refreshed and ready for the next day!
